Collapsed turbine

This turbine in Fenner, NY failed 6 months ago and the company investigating has not been able to determine the cause.  They’ve found that the turbine was built according to existing specifications; corners weren’t cut on materials or labor.

The other windmills have been powered off pending the results of the investigation, but it’s possible they’ll start operating again in July once some modifications have been made to the concrete bases.

Fenner, Madison County (WSYR-TV) – A wind turbine collapse in Fenner was the first of its kind in the U.S., according to the company that runs the Wind Farm. The turbine came crashing down on December 27.

Representatives of Enel met with the public Wednesday evening to give an update on the company’s investigation, more than five months after the collapse.

Enel is still in the process of determining a cause, but so far its investigation is concentrating on three major areas including design, load (weight) and the turbine’s construction and material. At this time, the company has rulled out the turbine’s construction and material as a possible cause of the collapse.
