A strong stream of pure water flowed from the ground at the location well known among the Indians who traveled from the Columbia River to the Blue Mountains. When the white traveler came into the area, he, too, made Summit springs, as it was to be called, a stopping place. In 1887, the settlement was platted on the homestead of early day sheepherder William F. Potter. In 1884, David B. Trimble, an early settler, contacted Alkali (Arlington) attorney Harry C. Condon to initiate the process of establishing a post office in the new city. Condon’s name was given to the new city as repayment to the young attorney for providing his services with-out charge.
Named after Harvey C. Condon, a lawyer who settled in a different nearby town (Arlington, though it was called Alkali at the time). Harvey Condon (of the law firm Condon and Cornish) sold lots to create the townsite. Harvey’s father was J.B. Condon, if that helps.
Could you tell me how your town got its name ?
